Brits to take 10 billion holiday snaps this year

Staycations and holidays abroad are back on the cards this summer, with Brits now able to travel around the UK freely and the Government announcing yesterday that there would be seven new additions to the UK’s green list. With data by ABTA revealing that nine in 10 British travellers took a holiday in 2019 – including domestic vacations within the United Kingdom and abroad – and now with travel restrictions lifting and staycations booming, PastBook estimates that Brits will capture an additional 10 billion holiday snaps on their smartphones this year.

Previously, family photo albums grew thick with memories of our summer holidays, friends and loved ones. Yet with data by PastBook revealing that 52% of the nation don’t own any physical copies of their favourite photos, our physical photographic record of these moments are being left on our devices or lost.

Now, PastBook unveils what you need to take the ultimate holiday snaps, and how to preserve the photos captured during this monumental summer.

Despite newer iPhones being water-resistant, PastBook recommends purchasing a specific case that allows you to protect your device on all your outdoor adventures – whether poolside in Mykonos or white-water rafting in Wales, an underwater case will safely capture the watery part of the world.

Smartphone Lens Kit:

A new lens expands the capabilities of your smartphone’s camera. From telephoto, wide-angle, macro, anamorphic, and fisheye, these lenses will open you up to a whole new world of creativity and can easily be swapped out to improve quickly improve your shots.

Vintage Camera Apps:

In the digital age, film photography has once again found its feet. Yet the entire camera package and film itself can be costly and heavy. By downloading a variety of vintage camera apps on your smartphone, you can produce retro-style snaps for free.

How to preserve photographs so they last for generations:

Unlike the childhood photo albums that our parents would break out in social gatherings – now, we can possess well-curated, stylistic logs of our most memorable summer holidays. Transforming our most unforgettable years in living memory into an image-based memoir preserved forever is PastBook, a unique instant photo book service. Using sophisticated technology, PastBook automatically creates a photo book of users’ best Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox, Flickr, Picasa, computer, phone, or tablet photos captured over the past year, and instantly arranges them into a high-quality photo book.

Daniel Scheijen, CMO of PastBook, discusses the value of preserving physical photos in the digital age:

“Over the last year, where we have faced social distancing, self-isolation and lockdown, our social media accounts have been flooded with images of banana bread, masks and socially distanced walks. Yet with Brits now heading on staycations and holidays abroad, PastBook is encouraging the nation to capture and share their experiences of this monumental summer.

With the nation capturing their summer holiday highlights on their smartphones, we will all have a digital photo album of our most monumental summer, one which we can look back on in years to come. At PastBook, we create well-curated, stylistic logs of these social accounts and turn them into image-based memoirs – preserved forever. As such, we can now all rediscovering the nostalgia that a physical photo can bring.”
