DUNSTABLE FOODBANK RECEIVE SUPPORT FROM LOCAL HOUSEBUILDER THIS CHRISTMAS

According to The Childhood Trust, 250,000 children in the UK will go hungry this Christmas with nearly a fifth of families worried about not being able to afford Christmas dinner*. To help support vulnerable residents in Houghton Regis, local housebuilder Barratt Homes has donated £1,000 to the Dunstable Foodbank as part of its Christmas Community Fund initiative.

The Christmas Community Fund will see Barratt North Thames donate £1000 to five charities close to its new homes developments across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Last year, Dunstable Foodbank distributed 56,533kg of food to people in the local area and expect this year’s total to have increased further. The housebuilder, who is building new homes at its Barratt at Linmere development on Betony Meadow in Houghton Regis, will see its donation go towards supporting food parcels over the festive period alongside ensuring the foodbank has a secure supply of resources for its beneficiaries.

Jemma Watkeys, Operations Manager at Dunstable Foodbank, said: “This winter, we are expecting high rates of referrals of residents in the area. With so many challenges facing our nation at the moment, we appreciate any support that businesses can give to help make sure no one goes hungry this Christmas and to help us continue the work we do to support those who are most in need. We thank Barratt North Thames for its generous donation which will be incredibly helpful in providing festive additions to our food parcels as well as supporting the general running of our foodbank.”

Karly Williams, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt North Thames, commented: “Dunstable Foodbank is a vital service within the local community, and its volunteers do a fantastic job supporting those in need. We are proud to contribute to the charity’s festive fundraising drive and hope our donation will go towards relieving some of that anxiety and help those in need to enjoy the festive period.”
Barratt North Thames is building its Barratt at Linmere development in Houghton Regis, just a few miles from the Dunstable Foodbank. Current availability includes a selection of three and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £402,000.
