Barratt and David Wilson Homes recently welcomed the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party to their Shrewsbury developments, as part of their tour around Shropshire.

Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner were taken on a tour of the Welshpool Road developments, Rose Place and The Lilies, where the housebuilders’ investment, sustainability and community objectives are being are now being realised.

Having purchased the land for the site in March 2021 and started construction in March 2022, the 241-home community is now well underway and includes 10% affordable homes.

During the visit, the Labour leaders were able to highlight the Party’s position on development and reiterate their pledge to increase home ownership and to reform planning, to build more homes, including more affordable homes.

On the tour of Rose Place and The Lilies, Sir Keir and Angela were also able to meet the Barratt and David Wilson Homes site teams, including apprentices, and sat down for a chat with a couple of residents at the development.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We were thrilled to welcome Sir Keir and Angela to our development to provide the opportunity to view the ongoing works and discuss our exciting plans for growth as the UK’s largest housebuilder.”

Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We’re very proud of our progress in Shrewsbury, and we’ll continue to prioritise ecology, sustainability and investment in the local community as the development takes shape.”

Barratt and David Wilson Homes have placed great focus on sustainability and ecology at both developments. One of the key improvements is the creation of a balancing pond on site, which provides an attractive outlook for the community’s residents.
Between the two housebuilders, a total of 196 bird and bat boxes are set to be installed, with over 630 trees also being planted across the development.

Over 33 acres of open space will also be created, plus more than 22 acres of wildflower meadows and tussock grassland. What’s more, there will be 6,360 new hedgerows and shrubs planted within the community.

For the continued protection of the area’s wildlife, Rose Place and The Lilies will feature more than 2,000 metres of hedgehog highways through new residential gardens, in addition to bee-friendly planting, hibernation banks and habitat log piles, and seven ponds and ditch channels.

Home buyers interested in a property at Rose Place can choose from a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes with prices starting from £235,000, whilst The Lilies has three and four bedroom homes available with prices starting from £284,995.
