London-based speciality coffee roaster Pact Coffee has recertified as a B Corporation, with a 24.8%, or 21.2 point, increase on its initial impact score.

To be awarded B Corp certification, businesses must meet high standards of social and environmental performance and are awarded points across several categories, including governance, workers, and environment, in an ‘Impact Assessment’.

Businesses must score 80 points to qualify, and Pact Coffee scored 106.6 points when recertifying.

Pact Coffee increased its score with a number of initiatives over the past three years, including moving to fully recyclable packaging made from 70% recycled materials, lowering emissions and waste in its roastery, and providing further proof of poverty alleviation throughout its supply chain.

Paul Turton, Pact Coffee’s CEO, said: “When we first certified in 2022, I said that this was just the beginning. It wasn’t about the badge, but being held accountable for being better tomorrow than we are today.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve made such a significant improvement in just a few years. It shows what’s possible when a business grows with purpose, and how we can and will continue to do this on a larger scale with every bean we sell.

“This has been at the core of our business ethos since we began in 2012, and paying growers fairly, trading ethically, and bringing incredible coffee to people across the UK remains at the forefront of our intentions today.

“I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who stocks, buys, and brews Pact Coffee for helping us to continue to prove that great coffee can drive real, lasting change.”

Pact Coffee reported a 12% revenue increase in 2024, with growth across all four of its sales channels, grocery, business-to-business, direct-to-consumer e-commerce and subscription.
