MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK: WEST MIDLANDS HOUSEBUILDER SHARES VOLUNTEERING HIGHLIGHTS

Leading developer Barratt Homes West Midlands is celebrating the efforts of its employees who carried out a wide range of volunteering projects in 2022.

Staff members at the Halesowen-based housebuilder’s divisional office and developments, with the help of its sub-contractors, chipped in to use a total of 85 volunteer days throughout the year to support a variety of charities, community groups and organisations.

Parent company Barratt Developments Plc gives each employee two days to be used for volunteering each year. Those at Barratt Homes West Midlands made the most of their days to support some excellent causes across its operational areas of Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.

Among the projects supported by the leading housebuilder was helping in the warehouse at food redistribution charity FareShare Midlands, groundworks at Dodford Children’s Farm in Bromsgrove, and assistance with haymaking for Leasowes Nature Reserve in Halesowen.

In addition, a team of happy helpers was also sent to St Basil’s Housing in Kidderminster to assist with painting fence panels, whilst Brushstrokes in Smethwick received support in building a Christmas grotto and present wrapping for asylum seekers, refugees and newcomers in its community.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We were delighted to learn our employees used 85 days’ worth of volunteering opportunities to support a large variety of excellent local causes.

“As a leading housebuilder, it’s important for us to support the communities in which we build, and we’re very proud of everyone who rolled up their sleeves in 2022 to help a range of charities, community groups and organisations.”

Seven visits were also made to Forest Dog Rescue in Kidderminster for dog walking and general support, alongside Birmingham’s Wythall Animal Rescue and Fur and Feathers, which both welcomed help with day-to-day maintenance.

On the education front, a visit was made to Aston University for a mentoring initiative, whilst Quarry Bank Primary School in Dudley also received two visits from the team at Barratt Homes for assistance.

Wellbeing charity Stepway in Oldbury was visited by the developer’s helpers to assist with laying the patio and building a raised bed in its community garden, whilst S.N.A.P in Cannock welcomed the support to clean up and paint its outdoor playground and kitchen for the benefit of children with special needs.

A final volunteering project also took place at Welcome Change in Shard End, Birmingham, in which a number of employees assisted the charity with its Over-50s community lunch.

Adrian added: “Looking back at all of our volunteering projects over the past year fills us with pride and celebrating the communities in which we’re building is a huge part of our role as the UK’s largest housebuilder.”

On top of its volunteering in 2022, Barratt Homes West Midlands also raised a total of £62,899.31 for its charity of the year, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, which included a matched donation from the Barratt Developments PLC Charitable Foundation.
