MARTIN GARRIX & U2 TEAM UP FOR NEW SONG “FIREFLIES” FOLLOWING LIVE DEBUT AT TOMORROWLAND WITH THE EDGE
Multiplatinum, chart-topping Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix teams up with 22-time Grammy Award winning, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band U2 to release “Fireflies” via Darkroom Records – listen HERE.
Premiered live for the first time during Garrix’s headlining Tomorrowland set last Friday, alongside a surprise appearance from The Edge, the collaboration marks the first time all four members of U2 have appeared on a track with Garrix. “Fireflies” is a powerful track fusing Bono’s unmistakable vocals, U2’s classic sound and Garrix’s signature production.
A longtime friendship and creative partnership have brought Martin Garrix and U2 together on multiple occasions. Most recently, Martin produced “Scars,” featured on U2’s latest EP, Easter Lily. Martin also previously collaborated with Bono and The Edge in 2019 on “We Are The People,” which was written for the UEFA European Football Championship.
On the collaboration Martin shares, ‘Fireflies’ has a very unique mood and it’s a special song we started working on six summers ago. It felt electrifying and very surreal to finally debut it at Tomorrowland with The Edge. I’ve worked with Bono and Edge before, but working with the whole band I got to get a glimpse of their chemistry and why U2 are who they are. They are incredible friends and collaborators, and it has been an absolute honor to work with them again.”
“We go back a long way with Martin, and there’s always a sense of adventure whenever we get together. Playing Fireflies for the first time at Tomorrowland, in front of one of the most passionate festival crowds anywhere, was such a rush… in fact I might have enjoyed it a bit too much. It reminded me of why I love playing outdoors. I like it better when there’s no ceiling,” said The Edge.
“Fireflies” is the latest release in a string of exciting collaborations from Garrix. Most recently, he collaborated with Madonna on “Bizarre” for newest album, Confessions 11. He first premiered the track during his three-night run at Barclays Center in New York. In May, Martin also teamed up with Ed Sheeran to release their long-awaited collaboration “Repeat It” as well as the acoustic version.
Martin Garrix recently wrapped the first leg of his largest and most ambitious headline tour to date, the Martin Garrix Americas Tour. He will appear at festivals in Europe for the remainder of the summer.
