Max Richter set to headline this summer’s South Facing Festival

Groundbreaking composer and activist Max Richter has been revealed as one of the headliners for this summer’s South Facing Festival at Crystal Palace Bowl (28th August 2021), an open-air concert series running across 12 performances from 14th August.

South Facing is a new annual event that aims to breathe new life into the Crystal Palace Bowl, a stunning outdoor amphitheatre soaked with a rich heritage of live music, untouched for the last decade. In its 60-year history, the venue has played host to some of the world’s most acclaimed artists: Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Elton John, The Cure, Lou Reed, Vera Lynn, to name a few.

This is Richter’s only UK date for 2021. He will perform two of his works, VOICES and INFRA, at the festival. The Max Richter Ensemble will take to the stage with Max performing solo piano and electronics, Mari Samuelson – Solo Violin, Grace Davidson – Solo Soprano and Robert Ziegler – Conductor.

Today, Max also releases Follower the second single from VOICES 2, the second album in VOICES the pioneering audio-visual project, co-created with artistic partner Yulia Mahr.

Max will also lead World Sleep Day coverage on 19th March, releasing a remix of Dream 3 which will be available digitally on Deutsche Grammophon (DG) for the first time.

Max Richter’s opus SLEEP, his ‘lullaby for a frenetic world’, continues to evolve five years on – last year, Deutsche Grammophon and Universal Music Germany’s Marketing Labs launched a hugely successful app. The SLEEP app enables listeners to reimagine the 8.5-hour DG recording in custom-made personalised musical sessions to help with focus, meditation and sleep, giving the listener aural spaces in which to escape.

Also for World Sleep Day, DG presents Max’s SLEEP documentary from JA Films and Globe Productions. In the UK it will be broadcast on BBC iPlayer and via DG Stage.
