Newcastle University ranks eighth overall and as the North East’s most Insta-worthy campus with 83,466 posts, while the University of Leeds is the only Yorkshire institution to feature in the top ten, counting 81,397 posts.

University of Manchester places 10th in the rankings with 76,129 posts on Instagram.

80% of the top 10 most Instagrammable Universities are part of the Russell Group, while some universities have not been tagged on Instagram at all, such as Royal Agricultural University or Leeds Trinity.

According to Sproutsocial, 87% of Gen Z (18–24-year-olds) use social media, with 93% using Instagram and 88% on Snapchat.

William Humphreys, CEO & Founder, Oxford Royale Academy (ORA) commented on the findings: “After the pandemic, with students having a difficult time studying at home or during the lockdown, returning to a beautiful campus is likely boost spirits and create an ideal atmosphere for these young people’s development. This generation of students has grown up with social media as an integral part of their lives, so it is interesting to look at how universities rank outside of the traditional academic factors.”

The analysis was conducted by Oxford Royale, a summer school company that allows students to be taught by unique and diverse faculty from Oxbridge academics, Ivy League lecturers, and industry professionals.
