To mark Women in Construction Week (1st–7th March), Taylor Wimpey Midlands is celebrating the achievements of women across its regional business, highlighting the inspiring career journeys of Eleanor Day, Assistant Finance Manager, and Jade Carter, Quality Manager.

With women currently making up around 15% of the UK construction workforce*, their stories showcase both the progress achieved and the opportunities still open as the industry continues to diversify.

Taylor Wimpey Midlands operates nine active developments across the region, employing a diverse team in office, commercial, and site roles, and is committed to supporting opportunities for women at all levels of the business.

Eleanor joined Taylor Wimpey in 2021 through the company’s Finance Graduate Scheme after leaving university. Following rotations across the business, she progressed to Assistant Finance Manager in 2024, returning to the Midlands business unit where she began her career.

In her role, Eleanor helps shape the business’s financial strategy and supports teams across departments to drive sustainable growth.

Eleanor said: “The industry is constantly changing – from the types of homes we build to the markets we sell in – so keeping your finger on the pulse is essential. There are so many different roles available, so don’t be afraid to try something new; you might just find your perfect role by accident. I love the housebuilding industry because every home we build has a real impact on our customers’ lives, and it’s exciting to be part of something that shapes communities.”

While Eleanor’s role focuses on financial strategy, Jade Carter’s career has been shaped on site.

Jade began her journey into construction 12 years ago, gaining hands‑on experience with a bricklaying team while studying at college. After progressing through site‑based roles and completing an NVQ Level 4 in Construction Management, she joined Taylor Wimpey in 2017 as an Assistant Site Manager. Over the next eight years, she advanced to Senior Site Manager, delivering multiple developments and earning multiple Pride in the Job awards.

In September 2025, Jade stepped into a regional role as Quality Manager, overseeing standards across nine developments in the Midlands.

Jade said: “I conduct inspections at every stage of the build process and work closely with site teams and contractors to ensure we consistently deliver high-quality homes. Construction has developed my confidence, resilience and leadership skills – it’s fast‑paced, rewarding and you’re always learning.”

Her advice to young women is clear: “Go for it. Don’t let outdated perceptions put you off. Be willing to learn, ask questions and back yourself.”

As the industry evolves, Taylor Wimpey Midlands continues to support women at every level – from finance and commercial roles to site leadership and quality management. For more on careers with Taylor Wimpey, visit www.taylorwimpey.co.uk
