New-age pubs are taking over London, and with Notting Hill already boasting a strong roster, The Good Oak has officially joined the party and they know how to do it well. Recently reopened following a thoughtful transformation led by Steven Shamoon, the project reimagines the classic gastropub for a new generation while carefully preserving the building’s original character.

Upstairs, Above at The Good Oak places music at the heart of its identity with an invite-only approach, the space attracts a local, high-end crowd. Six nights a week, the space hosts a regular programme of live music, DJs and culture-led events, designed for West London. Thursdays have seen the likes of S.O.L Collective, led by guitarist Ollie Clark and percussionist James Larter, blending Brazilian, blues and Latin American sounds. Fridays lean into groove-led vinyl DJ sets, while Saturdays turn up the tempo with upbeat DJs and late-night energy.Airy and atmospheric, Above at The Good Oak is defined by double-height ceilings, plush seating and vivid red shutters. Anchored by a custom piano by artist David King Reuben, a stylish bar, and an impressive private dining table, the room offers guests a transition from dinner to cocktails, live sets and conversation.

Led by Shamoon, The Good Oak is ultimately about community. “I saw nightlife change in London – there’s more emphasis on connection, conversation and comfort. I wanted to create a place where people feel just as comfortable popping in for 15 minutes as they do staying for six hours. A second home where you can connect, eat incredible food and feel completely at ease.”
