Looking to Shop Local This Summer? Visit Wilmslow
This summer, Wilmslow’s Way Better is shining a spotlight on the diverse range of small, locally owned businesses that help to give the town of Wilmslow its distinctive character and community spirit.
Wilmslow is home to over 75 independent businesses that ensure the high street is brimming with places to shop, eat, drink and socialise. From artisan food spots and fashion boutiques to coffee shops, salons, gift stores and wellness destinations, the town centre is a hive of independent activity offering a unique mix of businesses that always go above and beyond to deliver personal service, quality products and a warm welcome.
It even has its own luxury, independent department store Hoopers and a jewel in Wilmslow’s crown, the lovingly restored Art Deco cinema, The Rex.

Jo Davies, owner of independent fashion boutique Black White Denim and board member for the Wilmslow Business Improvement District, said:
“Independent businesses are so much more than places to shop. They’re run by passionate people who know their customers by name, care deeply about quality and contribute to the unique personality of the town.
Small businesses go the extra mile because we genuinely care about what we do. In my own experience, it’s the little things like remembering a regular’s preferences or offering tailored advice that build trust and inspire loyalty. That connection is what allows independents to truly thrive.
Wilmslow has an exceptional independent retail scene that we’re truly proud of and summer is the perfect time to visit, explore and support our local businesses. Every purchase made on the high street directly supports the local economy and helps our towns to flourish.”
FIVE REASONS TO SHOP INDEPENDENT IN WILMSLOW
Uncover Unique Items
Independent shops are packed with original, handpicked items that can’t be found on the high street. And Wilmslow is no different, whether it’s a fashion find at Black White Denim, stylish new frames and expert eye care at Clare & Illingworth, or that perfect home accessory at Homebird.
Shop Local, Support Local
Money spent in an independent store goes back into the local economy, creating more sustainable cities, towns and communities.
Talk to the Experts
Local shopkeepers are passionate about what they sell, which puts them in a position to offer specialist knowledge and personal recommendations. Dr SKNN, Run North West and Plant Blends are all fine examples of independent retailers with specific expertise.
Look Out for Seasonal Specials and Events
Many Wilmslow independents host seasonal sales, tasting events, or special late-night shopping evenings, follow the Wilmslow’s Way Better social media channels to stay in the know.
Make a Day of It
Pair your shopping with a visit to a local café or deli. Wilmslow has a thriving food scene to enjoy while you shop. Why not visit Smoke for a lazy brunch to fuel up ahead of hitting the high street and Stolen Lamb for some authentic Greek cuisine after a day browsing the shops.
