ANDYSMANCLUB Marks 10 Years Of Hope
ANDYSMANCLUB Marks 10 Years of Hope with Anniversary Films and Nationwide Walk & Talks
Ten years ago, nine men sat in a room in Halifax with one shared goal: to make sure no man had to struggle in silence.
Today, nearly 7,000 men walk through the doors of an ANDYSMANCLUB group every Monday night.
To mark its tenth anniversary, ANDYSMANCLUB is celebrating a decade of breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health with a series of films and community events, while also looking ahead to the next ten years.
Founded following the death by suicide of Andrew Roberts, aged just 23, the charity has grown from one group in Halifax to more than 350 locations across the UK, providing free, peer-to-peer support for thousands of men every week.
The charity’s official 10 year anniversary film has been released today (Tuesday 30 June), reflecting on the journey from those first nine men in Halifax to the movement ANDYSMANCLUB has become.
A second film, released at 5pm today, tells the story of a community mural created by volunteers, facilitators, supporters and members of the public. The mural is a recognition of everyone who has been part of the AMC journey over the past decade, every man who has walked through the doors, every volunteer who has given up their time, every supporter who has shared a post, worn a wristband or simply started a conversation. The mural demonstrates how something born from tragedy has been built on hope.
On Saturday 4 July, eleven special 10th Anniversary Walk & Talks will take place across the UK, including in Halifax, where ANDYSMANCLUB first began.
Open to everyone, the free Walk & Talks start at 1pm, last around 30 minutes and require no registration. Supporters, facilitators past and present, group users, families, partners and those bereaved by suicide are invited to come together, walk side by side and continue the conversations at the heart of ANDYSMANCLUB.
Walk & Talks will take place in Halifax, Perth, Newcastle, Hull, Carlisle, Warrington, Leicestershire, Cardiff, Southend-on-Sea, Exeter and Woking.
As ANDYSMANCLUB enters its second decade, its message remains the same: #ITSOKAYTOTALK
