CAMBRIDGESHIRE BLINDNESS CHARITY RECEIVES GRAND GESTURE FROM LOCAL HOMEBUILDER

Cam Sight, a charity that supports local people of all ages living with low vision and blindness, has received a £1,000 donation from Cambridgeshire developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The charity, founded in 1912, enhances independence, well-being, and inclusion for those living with low vision or blindness. Cam Sight helps around 2,000 people access its services every year and demand is increasing.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation will help support the charity’s peer support groups for visually impaired people. The groups provide an opportunity to meet others in the community with similar experiences. By sharing tips on how to do things differently and helping one another, the charity helps to form great friendships.

Jenny Medcalf, Fundraising Manager at Cam Sight, said: “We were elated when we found out about the donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes! The pandemic has had a massive impact on our charity’s fundraising and so we rely on donations from the community to run our services for local children and adults living with low vision and blindness.

“We will use this vital funding towards the cost of running monthly support groups across Cambridgeshire for the visually impaired, their carers, and their family members.

“The fact Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme enables each division to donate £1,000 to a local charity working to improve the quality of life for those living in their area, is just fantastic. It makes the funding process incredibly simple for charities, which is really appreciated too.

“On behalf of Cam Sight, I would like to say a huge thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes. This donation will really help make a difference.”

Cam Sight’s services are wide ranging, from peer support groups, befrienders, emotional support and counselling, sports and leisure, equipment and tech, to awareness training and talks.

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Cam Sight a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
