Lord Redwood has warned that Ed Miliband could be a “thorn in the side” of Andy Burnham’s hopes to reindustrialise by signing the UK up to international treaties.

Speaking on GB News he said: “He’s been booted upstairs, hasn’t he? And I dare say they hope he will keep quiet on those big issues that would do a lot of damage because of his views.

“But they shouldn’t underestimate this man’s skill. He was a very effective minister to put in all the wrong policies of net zero.

“And of course, as the overall overlord of foreign policy, with a prime minister who might start out with the intention of doing rather less of it himself, he can sign us up to all sorts of disastrous international treaties.

“And he can, from the Foreign Office, demand that we take these international treaties more seriously in the direction he wants.

“So I don’t think they’ve heard the end of Ed Miliband, and he may still be a thorn in the side were the Prime Minister to want to reindustrialise and to tackle the awful problem of expensive energy.”
