PETERBOROUGH SOUP KITCHEN WELCOMES HELPING HANDS FROM LOCAL HOUSEBUILDER

The team at Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Cambridgeshire recently got stuck into a day’s volunteering at Peterborough Soup Kitchen.

Set up in 1983, Peterborough Soup Kitchen is a local charity that aims to supply hot soup, food and drinks throughout the year, whatever the weather conditions, to those in need.

The Peterborough charity received 11 extra pairs of hands to help them during a busy period in the run up to Christmas.

The team split up into three groups, with one helping to redecorate the building, another organising the stock room, and another in the kitchen making items such as a fruit loaf.

Maxine Drake, a Trustee of Peterborough Soup Kitchen, said: “We had an amazing day with the team, we can’t thank them enough for giving their time so generously, having received so many great donations leading up to Christmas our stocks are now more organised, the redecorating has brightened the place up, and we have a good stock of fruit cake in the freezer to serve on Christmas Day.”

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build and were delighted to be able to help Peterborough Soup Kitchen with some extra pairs of hands in what is inevitably a busy period.
“During a time when costs continue to rise, it’s evident how charities such as the soup kitchen are heavily relied on. It’s more important than ever that we help to support them to support the local community.”
