WOKINGHAM TO BLOOM AFTER HOUSEBUILDER’S BULB PLANTING SPONSORSHIP

David Wilson Homes has partnered with Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham Town Council and Wokingham in Bloom to sponsor a community volunteer day to plant a range of bulbs on Elms Field.

The leading housebuilder added £500 to Wokingham Town Council’s funds of £1,000 to source 4,000 bulbs to planted on the green open space at its Landmark Square development.

Bulbs of a wide range of plant species were scattered by local residents, all under the expert guidance of Wokingham in Bloom.

As the completion of David Wilson Homes’ community draws closer, the developer’s support of the bulb planting project has contributed to the entry for Wokingham in Bloom, the town’s planting competition in 2023.

Whilst ensuring the open space at Elms Field is set to look bright and beautiful next year, the bulb planting has also encouraged residents to meet their neighbours whilst enjoying the health benefits of being outdoors.

According to a study by Censuswide, reported by Mind earlier this year, over seven million people say their mental health has benefitted from connecting with people outdoors.

In addition, 63% of UK adults say spending time gardening or in nature helps their mental health, with respondents to the survey saying it makes them feel less stressed and that they benefit from taking in the sights, colours and smells of the outdoors.

Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We were delighted to support the bulb planting in Wokingham and everyone in attendance will have provided a lovely addition to Elms Field when spring arrives.

“Supporting the communities in which we build is a priority of ours and we jump at the chance to help with these fantastic projects.”
